Battle against relegation continues

The battle against relegation continues on Monday as Mqabba take on Tarxien Rainbows and Hamrun Spartans face Mosta in the two Relegation Pool matches at the Hibernians Stadium.

Tarxien Rainbows will be hoping to move four points clear of Mqabba as the two teams face each other in a direct clash between the teams lying second and third from bottom.

The Rainbows won three of the five Relegation Pool matches and are coming from a 2-0 win over Marsaxlokk.

After being held in a goalless draw by Hamrun Spartans in their last outing, Mqabba cannot afford any result other than a win from this game. However they need to improve their finishing after they dominated the game against Hamrun but failed to turn their superiority into goals.

Mqabba defender Branislav Timotic is suspended but David Fenech will be back after serving a one-match ban. Tarxien could not count on the suspended Orosco Anonam while Mark Tanti is still ruled out injured.

Mqabba are yet to register a first win over Tarxien as the latter won 3-2 in the first round and 1-0 in the third round. The second round clash ended in a 1-1 draw.

Hamrun Spartans hope to extend their unbeaten run in the Relegation Pool as they take on Mosta. The Spartans won three out of the five matches played so far in the second phase. They disappointed in their last outing and need to improve their performance if they aim at taking home the three points.

Mosta won their last two matches, defeating Marsaxlokk and Qormi and now eye a third successive win which would put them in second place in the Relegation Pool.

The Blues could not count on Predrag Mirceta as he is suspended. Gaetan Spiteri returns for the Spartans after serving a one-match ban but Matthew Gauci is suspended.

Hamrun defeated Mosta 1-0 in the first round with the other two clashes ending in 2-2 draws.
