Malta climbs three places in FIFA Ranking

Following the 2-0 win over Luxembourg, Malta climbed three places in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking and is now ranked 147th.

Malta therefore leapfrogs Liechtenstein who are 148th after falling twenty places and 51st in Europe. The other two European countries lying behind Malta are Andorra (199) and San Marino (206). Just ahead of Malta are Luxembourg (121, down 2), Faroe Islands (122, down 4), Cyprus (125, up 8), Iceland (131), Moldova (140, up 2) and Kazakhstan (141, down 4).

The next game for Malta is a friendly match against San Marino away from home on August 14th.

Meanwhile world and European champions Spain extended their lead atop of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking as Uruguay unseated Germany to go second and reach their highest-ever position on the global ladder.

Besides La Celeste, climbers within the top ten include Brazil (5th, up 1), England (6th, up 1), Argentina (7th, up 2) and Denmark (9th, up 1), while Portugal have fallen by five places after a goalless draw against FYR Macedonia and a 3-1 loss to Turkey, and now sit tenth.
