AME Cup: Birkirkara win Group A

Birkirkara ended their commitments in Group A of the AME Cup which is being played at the Luxol Stadium with maximum points as they defeated Rabat Ajax 4-1.

The Magpies forged ahead thanks to Adam Smeir on 17 minutes but five minutes from the end of the first half, Jhonnattann levelled matters for Birkirkara.

Five minutes in the second half, Jusselio Donizete made it 2-1 for the Stripes while Joselito dos Reis scored twice on 70 and 78 minutes to seal the issue for Birkirkara.

Birkirkara will now meet the runner-up of Group B in the first semi-final on Thursday at 18:30.

Rabat Ajax, on the other hand, place third in the group and will meet the team which places third in Group B in the final for 5th and 6th place on Saturday at 20:30.

In another match, Sliema Wanderers defeated Qormi 3-0 thanks to goals by Omar Fonstad El Ghaouti on 7 minutes, Alex Muscat on 11 minutes and Miguel Ciantar on 89 minutes. Abubakar Bello Osagie missed a penalty for Qormi on the hour.

Sliema Wanderers take the runner-up spot in Group A and will face the winners of Group B in the second semi-final on Thursday.

Qormi, on the other hand, will play in the final for 7th and 8th place on Saturday.

The last games from Group B will be played on Monday as Tarxien Rainbows take on Mosta while Balzan face Hamrun Spartans, kick-off at 18:30 and 20:30 respectively.
