Transfer market closes without any surprises

The summer transfer market closed on Friday without any particular suprise moves.

After releasing Christian Caruana, it was the turn of another former Floriana captain, Christian Cassar to be released by the Greens. Cassar had his contract terminated and therefore is free to move to any other club at any time since he is no longer under contract.

After a proposed deal involving the exchange of a number of players between Floriana and Qormi fell through, Malta Under-21 international defender Owen Bugeja was still on the verge of joining the latter. However while the player and officials of the two clubs at the MFA Headquarters, there was a disagreement over money due to the player and the deal fell through.

Qormi, however, still managed to secure the services of Triston Caruana on another one-year loan from Hibernians.

Stephen Wellman, whose contract with Qormi expired at the end of last season, has not agreed a new deal with the club and is therefore a free agent.

After appointing Clive Mizzi as their new coach and signing Roderick Bajada from Sliema Wanderers, Tarxien Rainbows secured the services of another Brazilian player Andrezinho and signed Ryan Sammut from Mqabba and David Fenech from Sliema Wanderers. Warren Chircop was loaned to Marsaxlokk.

Apart from Edward Herrera, Birkirkara signed youth international Godwin Mackay from Mosta. Patrick Borg, on the other hand, was loaned to Rabat Ajax.

Adrian Borg joined Hamrun Spartans from Mosta.

In Division 1, Gzira United secured the services of Caio Garcia Suguino, formerly of Tarxien Rainbows and Qormi, apart from Alfred Effiong.
