Open Day at Justin Haber Academy

The Justin Haber Football Academy (JHFA) is organising an open day at its premises at the King George V grounds in Floriana (opposite Sir Paul Boffa Hospital) on Friday 21st September.

During the open day, kids aged between 6 and 16 will be able to join the drills, free of charge, under the watchful eyes of Sunderland AFC trained coaches. Parents will also be able to meet the coaches and other professionals at JHFA, to see for themselves what the academy is all about.

JHFA is a professional football academy for boys and girls. It was set up by international goalkeeper Justin Haber and is run in collaboration with the English Premier League side Sunderland AFC. JHFA has also acquired the services of a Sunderland AFC coach who will be in Malta on a permanent basis, throughout the year, to oversee the development of the kids at the academy.

Parents interested in booking a place for their kids to participate in this one-day opportunity are being encouraged to book their place until the 19th of September to avoid disappointment.

The Justin Haber Football Academy has introduced a totally new concept for Malta. It adopts a holistic approach which enables the all-round development of young players who can potentially make it into the professional game. The programme on offer at JHFA is modelled on that being implemented at Sunderland AFC’s own academy in the UK. Sunderland AFC was recently awarded the highest classification – Category One Status – as an Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) Academy Category.

JHFA employs professional football coaches who oversee training sessions held in the challenging, safe and supportive environment of its own premises. Young players at the JHFA are guided by the academy’s sports psychologists, fitness coaches and nutritionists. They help youngsters learn to make the right choices and to take care of themselves and their bodies as from an early age. Life-skills and other subjects related to character and personality building are part of the academy’s curriculum.

Justin Haber, Managing Director at JHFA, said that “the ultimate aim of JHFA is to help prepare young footballers for the professional game abroad. Life as a Pro is not as easy as it seems. Being highly-talented is not enough. Mental and physical application, the will to learn from one’s own mistakes, and a confident personality, are all hallmarks of young professional footballers in the making. JHFA strives to help young footballers bridge the gap and achieve what others have learnt the hard way, on their own and without much guidance.”

The Open Day at JHFA in Floriana will include a number of activities for the whole family. Parents and kids can also register for a penalty challenge – one on one – against Malta’s international goalkeeper Justin Haber.
