After beating Hibernians and being held in a draw by Birkirkara, champions Valletta are in for another important test as they take on eternal rivals Floriana in one of the Two BOV Premier League matches in programme on Saturday at the National Stadium.
The Citizens dropped just two points in the first seven matches and target a win in order to extend further the lead on top the BOV Premier League table. They are currently three points ahead of Birkirkara and four ahead of Hibernians with the Paolites being in action on Sunday.
The Greens are currently ninth on nine points and collected just one point from the lt two matches following a 1-3 defeat to Mosta and a 2-2 draw with Qormi. They have now strengthened the squad with the signing of goalkeeper Tony Warner and striker Francis Jeffers, appointing former Birkirkara, Sliema and Qormi coach Stephen Azzopardi as their new coach.
Kane Farrugia will be back for Floriana after serving a one-match ban but Aaron Brown is still ruled out through suspension. Missing for Valletta is Ryan Fenech.
The match will be controlled by international referees from Latvia, namely referee Aleksandrs Anufrijevs who will be assisted by FIFA Assistant Referees Raimonds Tatriks and Jevgenijs Morozov.
Meanwhile in the first match, Mosta take on Rabat Ajax.
The Blues will be eager to bounce back after a most disappointing 0-2 defeat to Tarxien Rainbows in their last outing. A win over Rabat would put them in third place on level points with Hibernians.
Rabat, on the other hand, are still seeking their first win but are coming from a 1-1 draw with Hamrun Spartans two weeks ago.
Clive Brincat returns for the Magpies but Patrick Borg is still ruled out through suspension. Mosta welcome back Firas Aboulezz but Daniel Bogdanovic is still recovering from in injury.
