Second round gets underway

Birkirkara will be aiming for the three points on Saturday as they take on Melita in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Three points which would put Birkirkara on top the BOV Premier League table although current leaders Valletta would have a game in hand.

The Stripes returned to winning ways last week as they beat Mosta 1-0 to move one point ahead of Hibernians, two ahead of Sliema and three ahead of Mosta.

Melita, on the other hand, earned their fifth point, holding Floriana in a 2-2 draw last week. A game which marked the debut of coach Patxi Salinas who will be unable to lead the team from the bench after being sent off during the same game.

Edward Herrera is still ruled out for Birkirkara together with Joselito dos Reis and Shola Shodiya but Gareth Sciberras will be back after serving a one-match ban.

In the first round, Birkirkara defeated Melita 4-0.

Meanwhile in the second match, Balzan take on Hamrun Spartans.

Two points separate the two teams as Balzan registered a sixth consecutive positive result with a 2-0 win over Rabat Ajax, putting them seventh on 15 points.

The Spartans, on the other hand, are coming from two 1-2 defeats to Sliema and Hibernians.

Hamrun welcome back Lyubomir Vitanov who missed the game against Hibernians. Bjorn Bondin and Rennie Forace return for Balzan after serving a suspension.

In the first round, the two teams shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw.
