Lija Athletic moved on top the BOV First Division thanks to a 2-0 win over Zejtun Corinthians at the Centenary Stadium on Friday. A win which puts Brian Spiteri’s side two points ahead of St. Andrews who however have a game in hand.

Amadeo Mercieca put Lija ahead on 14 minutes and Andre Scicluna doubled the score on three minutes from time.

In another match, Naxxar Lions and Gudja United shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

Naxxar join St. Andrews in second place.

Angus Buhagiar scored the two goals for Naxxar, Ryan Sell and Kiril Aleksandrov the goals for Gudja.

Lija Athletic lead the way with 17 points, followed by St. Andrews and Naxxar on 15, Marsaxlokk 13, Zejtun and Gudja 12, Pieta and Vittoriosa 11, Gzira 6, Dingli 4, Birzebbuga 3 and Mqabba 2.
