U*BET FA Trophy: Tricky test for holders Hibernians

Holders Hibernians face a tricky test in the third round of the U*BET FA Trophy as they face Mosta at the Hibernians Stadium in one of the six matches in programme on Saturday.

The two teams met twice in the BOV Premier League with the Paolites winning 3-2 and 1-0 but Mosta, who lie just three points behind third-placed Hibernians are eager to upset them.

Also at the Hibernians Stadium, Birkirkara meet in-form Tarxien Rainbows. The Stripes are the current leaders in the BOV Premier League but the Rainbows are fifth, just six points behind them. In the first round of the BOV Premier League, Birkirkara defeated Tarxien 4-1.

At the Centenary Stadium, Second Division side Msida St. Joseph take on St. Andrews from Division 1. Msida are currently fourth in Division 2 and reached this stage after eliminating Vittoriosa Stars 2-1 after extra-time. St. Andrews are now second after enjoying some time on top. They defeated Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 2-0 in the second round of the competition.

In the second match, Qormi face Second Division side Pembroke Athleta. Qormi registered three consecutive wins in their last three outings to move eighth from tenth. Pembroke, who defeated Gozitans Xewkija Tigers 3-2 in the previous round, are currently fifth in Division 2.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Sliema Wanderers face BOV Second Division leaders Zebbug Rangers. The latter are still unbeaten in Division 2 and top the table with a comfortable five-point lead. They beat Mellieha 3-0 in the second round. The Wanderers are currently sixth in the BOV Premier League after suffering two consecutive defeats in their last two outings.

In another match, Melita take on Floriana in another clash between two Premier League sides. Ten points separate the two teams as Floriana are currently ninth and Melita eleventh. Melita and Floriana shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in the BOV Premier League first round.

In these matches, extra-time will be played if necessary and if at the end of extra-time, the result is still draw, penalty kicks shall be taken in accordance with the Laws of the Games.
