U*BET FA Trophy: Twelve teams seek place in fourth round

Valletta will be all out to bring to an end their winless streak as they take on Hamrun Spartans at the National Stadium in one of six U*BET FA Trophy third round matches in programme on Sunday.

The Citizens were held in four draws before losing to Mosta last week and now, not only seek a morale booster ahead of the remaining BOV Premier League first phase matches but also a place in the fourth round of the competition.

The Spartans are coming from four consecutive defeats and are currently third from bottom. Against Valletta, they seek revenge after a most humiliating 2-8 defeat in the BOV Premier League first round.

Meanwhile in the first match at the National Stadium, First Division side Pietà Hotspurs face Rabat Ajax. The Hotspurs are currently fourth in Division 1 and reached this stage after eliminating Second Division side St. George’s 1-0. The Magpies are finding the Premier League adventure a very tough one as they still seek their first win, losing nine out of thirteen matches.

At the Centenary Stadium, Second Division side Gzira United take on Gozitan First Division side SK Victoria Wanderers. The Maroons, who are currently ninth in Division 1, defeated Third Division side Sirens in the second round while SK Victoria Wanderers beat two Maltese teams – Third Division side Santa Lucia 3-0 and Second Division side Mgarr United 2-1.

In another match, Second Division side Zurrieq face neighbours Mqabba from Division 1. Zurrieq, currently eighth in Division 2, defeated another Second Division side Fgura United 4-0 in the previous round. Mqabba, lying at the bottom of the table in Division 1, beat Second Division side Kirkop United 3-0.

At the Sirens Stadium, Second Division side St. Patrick take on Gozitan First Division side Sannat Lions. The Saints are joint-eight in Division 2 and managed to reach the third round after beating Third Division side Marsa on penalties. Sannat, on the other hand, eliminated two Third Division sides – Kalkara 2-0 and Swieqi United 6-1. They are currently fifth in the GFA First Division.

In another match, First Division side Zejtun Corinthians meet Gozitan First Division side Nadur Youngsters. The Corinthians defeated Second Division side San Gwann 3-1 in the previous round and are currently sixth in Division 1. Nadur, on the other hand, are currently second in Gozo and reached this stage of the FA Trophy after eliminating Gozitan Second Division side Gharb Rangers 8-1 and First Division side Marsaxlokk 1-0.
