Vittoriosa Stars registered a most important 3-2 win over Lija Athletic to maintain the challenge for promotion to the Premier League. These three points put Oliver Spiteri’s side on top the BOV First Division table, two points ahead of Naxxar Lions who however have a game in hand.
Ige Abdullahi Adeshina put Lija ahead on the 5th minute. Gary Muir levelled matters seven minutes later and Marcelo Pereira made it 2-1 two mintues in the second half. Leontiev Konda restored equilibrium on the 76th minute but two minutes later, an own goal by Timothy Fleri Soler handed Vittoriosa the three points.
Meanwhile in another match, Pietà Hotspurs defeated Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 4-0.
Senior David put the Hotspurs ahead on 26 minutes. Terence Agius doubled the score eight minutes in the second half before Karl Cutajar and Jurgen Pisani scored twice in the final three minutes to seal the issue.
Vittoriosa lead the way with 33 points, followed by Naxxar on 31, Pietà 30, Lija 29, Marsaxlokk and Gudja 26, St. Andrews 24, Zejtun 18, Gzira 15, Dingli 12, Birzebbuga 9 and Mqabba 5.
