BOV Division 1: Lija, Pietà share spoils in draw

BOV-First-Division---2012-2013A goal on the 90th by Raphael Alain Kooh Sohna maintained alive promotion hopes for Pietà Hotspurs as they earned a point in a 1-1 draw with leaders Lija Athletic. Leontiev Konda had put Lija ahead on the 15th.

Lija now lead the way with 42 points, followed by Vittoriosa on 41, Pietà and Naxxar on 40. This weekend, Vittoriosa take on Marsaxlokk while Naxxar face St. Andrews. A win for Vittoriosa would enable them to secure promotion to the Premier League.

In the final games next week, Pietà face Vittoriosa and Naxxar meet Lija.

Dingli Swallows defeated Zejtun Corinthians 4-3 in the second match on Friday.

Josuel Spiteri put Zejtun ahead on the 8th minute and Adrian Carabott doubled the score just before half-time. Kain Roomes pulled one back seven minutes in the second half but Adrian Carabott made it 3-1 four minutes later.

Kane Roomes scored a second goal for Dingli on the 59th and ten minutes later, Christian Muscat levelled matters. Kain Roomes notched the winner four minutes from time to maintain alive Dingli’s hopes of avoiding relegation.

Meanwhile St. Andrews are fifth on 36 points, followed by Marsaxlokk on 29, Gudja 26, Zejtun 21, Gzira 20, Birzebbuga 19, Dingli 16 and Mqabba 8. Mqabba were relegated to Division 2 after last weekend’s results.
