BOV Women's Division 1: Birkirkara, Mosta keep marching on

BOV-Women-First-Division-12-13Mosta and Birkirkara kept marching on in the BOV Women’s First Division as they registered wins.

At the Sannat Ground on Sunday, Mosta defeated Gozo 7-0. Dorianne Theuma and Nicole Buttigieg scored two goals each with Jade Flask, Rebecca D’Agostino and Rebecca Chircop adding the other three goals.

Birkirkara overcame the challenge offered by Hibernians, beating them 3-1 at the Luxol Stadium.

The first half was a balanced affair with the two teams adopting a cautious approach. Four minutes in the second half, Kelly Agius Pace put Birkirkara ahead. Hibs levelled matters through Ylenia Carabott on 62 minutes but Birkirkara regained the lead thanks to a goal by Gabriella Zahra. Ten minutes from time, Rachel Cuschieri sealed the issue with a third goal for the Stripes.

Mgarr United defeated Tarxien Rainbows 6-0 at the Tarxien Ground.

After holding Pembroke in a draw, Tarxien found life difficult against Mgarr who already enjoyed a four-goal lead within the first thirty-two minutes thanks to a hat-trick by Daniela Ebejer and a goal by Claudette Xuereb. After losing goalkeeper Dorienne Grech, Tarxien suffered another two goals in the last eight minutes – goals by Alice Stanton and LeeAnn Wood.

Pembroke Athleta returned to winning ways as they defeated Hamrun Spartans 4-0 at the Charles Abela Stadium.

Pembroke had an excellent start, taking the lead on the 2nd minute through Cassandra Camilleri. Amber Grech doubled the score on the half-hour and five minutes later Sarah Caruana made it 3-0. Hamrun improved after the break and had the opportunity to reduce the gap when they were awarded a penalty but Amanda Atkins’ effort was neutralised by RoseMarie Baldacchino. However five minutes from time, Martina Borg sealed the issue for Pembroke with a fourth goal.

In the BOV Women’s Second Division, Raiders (Luxol) were declared champions after beating Vittoriosa Stars 6-0 at the Pembroke Ground.

Rodienne Zerafa notched a hat-trick, Nicole Micallef scored twice with Naomi Van Erd adding another goal.

Kirkop United were held in a 2-2 draw by Fgura United at the Fgura Ground.

Fgura took the lead on the 4th minute thanks to Eliana Gialanze and two minutes later, Karen Schembri doubled the score. Late in the first half, Martina Bonello pulled one back for Kirkop and Donnalise Xerri notched the equaliser eleven minutes from time. Fgura had Alberta Cassar sent off on 68 minutes.

At the Zebbug Ground, St. Venera Yellow Blues were also held in a 2-2 draw by Lija / Iklin.

It was a fine comeback by Lija / Iklin, who scored twice in the last seventeen minutes to earn a point after claiming their first points in a win over Vittoriosa last week.

St. Venera, who had started the game with ten players, lost captain Laura Caruana injured on the 65th minute.

Orianne Cassar put them ahead after just one minute and doubled the score on the 9th. An own goal by Emily Pace reduced the gap for Lija / Iklin who levelled matters through Lorraine Abela one minute from time.
