Euro Cup: Valletta, Hibs share spoils in draw

Euro-Challenge-CupA late penalty denied Valletta the three points as they were held in a 1-1 draw by holders Hibernians in another match from the Euro Cup at the Centenary Stadium on Tuesday.

Yessous Camilleri, who was on loan with Balzan in the past two years, put the Citizens ahead on 29 minutes but three minutes from time, Obinna Obiefule converted a penalty to restore equilibrium.


Apart from fielding players who were on loan with other clubs last season, Valletta had three new players – Italian goalkeeper Pietro Marino, Zgozo-based Serbian midfielder Milos Stojanovic, who played for Nadur Youngsters last season, and Dutch striker Harrie Gommans.

Sliema Wanderers lead the table with three points, followed by Valletta and Hibernians on one point with Birkirkara lying at the bottom of the table without any points.

The tournament continues on Friday with the clash between Hibernians and Sliema Wanderers while on Saturday, Birkirkara take on Valletta. Both matches will be played at the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 20:00.
