UEFA Women's Champions League: Another heavy defeat for Birkirkara

women-champions-leagueWFC Osijek of Croatia scored six in the second half to beat Birkirkara 7-1 in the final match from Group 8 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League Qualifying Round at the Sportpark Slangenbeek in Hengelo, the Netherlands.

Maja Joščak put the Croatians ahead on 21 minutes but for the rest of the first half, the Stripes controlled their opponents well. However two quick goals early in the second half gave Osijek a comfortable lead.

Captain Violeta Baban converted a penalty on 52 minutes to double the score and Izabela Lojna made it 3-0 two minutes later. Gabriella Zahra pulled one back on 69 minutes but Osijek scored four in the final fifteen minutes thanks to Maja Joščak on 75, Baban on 76 and a brace by Lojna on 80 and 90 minutes.

The Stripes therefore ended their commitments at the bottom of the table without any points. Glasgow City won the tournament.
