Sirens registered an incredible 10-1 win over Gozitan side Sannat Lions in one of six U*BET FA Trophy first round matches in programme on Saturday.
This was the largest win ever for Sirens FC in a competitive match. An excellent way for the Northerners to commemorate their 700th competitive game. In another match at the Sirens Stadium, Swieqi United defeated Qrendi 3-2.
After a goalless first half, Terence Cachia put Qrendi ahead on the hour but Abner dos Santos levelled matters for Swieqi a minute later. Stefi Cale made it 2-1 for Qrendi on 67 minutes. Tundzhay Kurtulush restored equilibrium five minutes from time and a penalty by Abner dos Santos on the 89th gave Swieqi victory and a place in the second round.
At the Gozo Stadium, Xewkija Tigers defeated Kalkara 4-0. Dene Shields put the Tigers ahead on 13 minutes and the Scottish striker doubled the score ten minutes later. Gennaro Hili converted a penalty seven minutes in the second half and Luke Portelli sealed the issue with a fourth goal one minute from time.
In another match, Ta’ Xbiex beat Ghajnsielem 4-1. Matthew Portelli put the Blacks ahead on 21 minutes after converting a penalty but Ta’ Xbiex scored four in the second half thanks to a hat-trick by Riccardo Napoli on 55, 66 and 90 minutes and a goal by Claude Spiteri on 86 minutes.
At the Centenary Stadium, SK Victoria Wanderers registered a 2-0 win over Xghajra Tornados. Fernando Giarrizzo put the Gozitan side ahead on 44 minutes and Eric Chidi Nwankwo doubled the score on 69 minutes.
In another match, Mgarr United beat Attard 2-0. Jonathan Muscat put Mgarr ahead on 33 minutes and Albert Aquilina doubled the score just before half-time.
In the second round, Swieqi United face Siggiewi, Mgarr United take on St. Andrews, Sirens meet Marsa, Ta’ Xbiex take on Pembroke Athleta, SK Victoria Wanderers meet Marsaskala while Xewkija Tigers will play Lija Athletic.
