women-pembroke-gozo131001JBThree teams claimed maximum points from the first two matches in the BOV Women’s First Division as focus turned once again on the domestic competitions following the Women’s Under-19 national team’s commitments in the UEFA Under-19 Championship mini-tournament in Serbia.

Gozo doubled the score on 66 minutes when a Joslyn Gafa freekick was partially saved by substitute goalie Nicole Mifsud, aided by the posts and off the rebound, Felicienne Mercieca placed the ball at the back of the net. Pembroke pulled one back on 73 minutes when Leanne Micallef won the ball in midfield, advanced on the right and beat Grech with a shot from inside the area. They pushed for the equaliser but on the 90th, Gozo sealed the issue with a third goal thanks to a solo effort by Emma Xuereb who advanced on the left before beating the Pembroke goalkeeper with a shot from inside the area.
