After losing the last two matches, Swieqi United returned to winning ways, defeating St. Venera Lightnings 2-1 in one of the two BOV Third Division matches in programme on Monday. Swieqi join Luqa St. Andrew’s in fourth place, four points behind leaders Sirens.
Abner dos Santos put Swieqi ahead on 14 minutes and the same player doubled the score on the 56th. Mark Grech pulled one back for the Lightnings on 79 minutes.
In another match, Mgarr United defeated Mtarfa 2-0 thanks to goals by Matthew Muscat and Ryan Zammit.
Sirens lead the way with 16 points, followed by Santa Lucia on 15, Attard 13, Luqa and Swieqi 12, Sta. Venera 10, Ghaxaq, Xghajra and Mgarr 9, Mtarfa 7, Qrendi 4, Kalkara 1, Ta’ Xbiex 1 and Marsaxlokk -4.
