BOV Division 2: Pembroke win seven-goal thriller

sangwann-mellieha131117Pembroke Athleta stay on top the BOV Second Division table thanks to a dramatic highly-entertaining 4-3 win over Siggiewi in one of the six matches in programme on Sunday.

Alessio Cassar put Siggiewi ahead on 25 minutes and Luke Cassar doubled the score seven minutes from the end of the first half. However Pembroke hit back in the second half, reducing the gap on 47 minutes thanks to Jonathan Mifsud and two goals by Nicholas Zammit on 61 and 66 minutes put them 3-2 ahead. Mark Camilleri restored equilibrium on 73 minutes but Adrian Galea notched the winner for Pembroke on 81 minutes

Like Pembroke, Fgura United also maintained their unbeaten record with a 3-0 win over Marsaskala. Joseph Okonkwo put them ahead on 42 minutes. Josef Dalli doubled the score on 65 minutes and six minutes later, Okonkwo scored again to seal the issue.

Zabbar St. Patrick regained the third place thanks to a 2-0 win over Dingli Swallows. The Saints took the lead on the 37th minute thanks to Richard Galea and Dillon Pace doubled the score on 59 minutes.

San Gwann dropped another two points in a 1-1 draw with Mellieha. Kurt Zahra put San Gwann ahead on 32 minutes and Daniel Saliba levelled matters on the 62nd.

Marsa returned to winning ways as they defeated Kirkop United 2-1. Uchenna Anyanwu put Kirkop ahead on 27 minutes but ten minutes later, Basil Chibueze levelled matters. Keith Darmanin converted a penalty on the 90th to hand Marsa the three points.

mdina-senglea131117Senglea Athletic defeated Mdina Knights 5-2 in another match. Senglea went three goals ahead thanks to a brace by Timmy Thomas on the 20th and 45th and Audgustine Obaje on the 27th. Ayrton Buhagiar pulled one back on 56 minutes but another two goals by Timmy Thomas on 57 and 85 minutes. Daniel Cremona reduced the gap three minutes from time.

Pembroke lead the way with 21 points, followed by Fgura on 19, Zabbar 18, Mqabba 17, San Gwann 16, Mellieha 15, Senglea 13, Gharghur 12, Marsa 9, Mdina and Kirkop 8, Siggiewi 5, Dingli and Marsaskala 4.
