Futsal: William Barbosa hits five as Luxol move second

futsal3412312William Barbosa was Luxol’s inspirational player as he scored five goals to help his side overcome Mosta with a 14-5 scoreline. It was Luxol’s fifth consecutive victory that helped them claim the second place in the table three points less than Hibs who played a game more. The other goals were scored by a hat-trick from Ibrahim Tarik, Florin Anton, Karl Saliba, Dean Gera, Noel Bray and Hassan.

Balzan quickly replied to Luxol’s victory by seeing off Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 12-4. They had Romanian duo Gabriel Dobre and Emil Raducu missing in their initial squad as they were engaged with their national team. The Southerners tried to absorb Balzan’s continuous attacks and created some good chances in the first half. They succeeded in levelling the score but after finding the net again, Balzan looked confident and there was no doubt on their fifth consecutive win.

Balzan’s goals were scored by Marc Areny Albert (hat-trick), three braces by Zejlko Anicic, Rennie Tanti and Nicola del Re and a goal by Christian Wismayer, Jovica Milijic and Giancarlo Sammut. A brace by captain Noel Tabone and a goal by Alejandro Asenjo Mexia reduced the arrears for Birzebbuga.

San Gwann returned back to winning ways after beating Luqa St. Andrew’s 2-0. This was their fourth success of the season for San Gwann who leap forward in the table with 12 points.

On the other hand, Zurrieq’s goalkeeper Delyan Ivanov produced a string of superb saves to help his side overcome Qormi’s hurdle 4-1. Qormi were the better team in the first seven minutes producing lots of occasions and scoring through Andre Mamo. They continued to create a lot of chances but Zurrieq defended boldly their opponents. After 10 minutes, Zurrieq levelled matters with Joseph Lia. Before the end of the first half Garrett Magri made it 2-1 for Zurrieq. In the second half, Qormi tried to react but they missed a lot of good chances. Keeper Delyan Ivanov saved the day for Zurrieq after producing some amazing saves to deny Qormi’s strikers. A brace by Tyron Borg sealed the issue for Zurrieq to register their second win of the season.

Hamrun Spartans defeated Swieqi United 6-2 to register the second success of the season. The Spartans now bounce in the eighth place of the table with six points.

In the First Division, Naxxar Lions beat Msida St. Joseph 2-1 while Qrendi had the better of Siggiewi 5-3.

Zebbug Rangers had a convincing performance to overcome Marsaskala 11-2. They are now third in the table four points far from leaders Qrendi having also a game in hand.
