Citizens seek derby win to keep pace with leaders

valletta-floriana130831pzcValletta will be all out for the three points on Sunday as they take on neighbours Floriana in this weekend’s big match from the BOV Premier League. Three points which would put them once again one point behind the two joint-leaders Hibernians and Birkirkara.

The Citizens won five of the last six matches, beating Mosta 6-0 in their last outing. However their task is definitely a more difficult one on Friday as the Greens are doing quite well despite starting the season with a minus six points. They are currently joint-seventh on twelve points.

Floriana could not count on Sacha Borg and Jonathan Xerri. Luke Dimech, Ian Azzopardi and Hamza Barry are ruled out injured for Valletta.

In the first round, Valletta defeated Floriana 3-0.

Meanwhile in the first match, Tarxien Rainbows hope to revenge the first round’s heavy defeat to Qormi.

Qormi humiliated Tarxien with a 6-2 score but since then they only managed to collect five points in a win and two draws and are currently second from bottom. Tarxien, on the other hand, are joint-seventh and are coming from a 1-0 win over neighbours Hibernians.

Matthew Farrugia, Owen Bugeja and Alfred Effiong return for Qormi but Giuseppe Bellucci and Duncan Pisani are ruled out through suspension. Joao Gabriel da Silva is expected to make his debut for Tommaso Volpi’s side. Tarxien will be without the suspended Fernando Lopes Alcantara and Luca Martinelli.
