Tricky test for Birkirkara

bkara-sliema130127Joint-leaders Birkirkara are in for a tricky test on Tuesday as they take on Sliema Wanderers in one of the two matches in programme at the Hibernians Stadium.

The Stripes lead the way with 32 points together with Hibernians and aim for the three points in their bid to take sole leadership as the Paolites face Valletta on Wednesday.

They are coming from six consecutive wins, defeating Balzan 2-1 last week. This win also enabled them to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches.

Sliema, on the other hand, are eager to bounce back after being held in a 2-2 draw by Naxxar Lions during the weekend. A draw which saw them lose ground in the race for the title.

The Wanderers could not count on Italian defender Alessandro Rapino who was sent off against Naxxar and Mark Scerri who was banned for two matches.

In the first round, Birkirkara and Sliema shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile in the first match, Mosta take on Vittoriosa Stars. The Blues are currently fifth and are coming from a 4-0 win over Rabat Ajax. Vittoriosa, on the other hand, are second from bottom after suffering the fifth defeat in six matches, losing 1-5 to Hibernians on Saturday.

In the first round, Mosta beat Vittoriosa 2-0.
