Futsal: Luxol, Hibs maintain winning streak

futsal213280y3Luxol and Hibernians maintained their winning streak in the FXDD Premier Division after having the better of Zabbar St. Patrick and Luqa St. Andrew’s respectively.

Hibernians hit fourteen goals past Luqa St. Andrew’s. Jesmond Micallef, Daniel Brincat, Melvin Borg, Cedric Sciberras and Matthew Attard were among the scorers for the Paolites who had Xavier Saliba missing through suspension.

Luxol managed to win 13-3 against Zabbar to move second, three points behind leaders Hibernians. Four goals by Ibrahim Tarik, a hat-trick by William Barbosa, a brace each by Dean Gera and Carl Saliba and a goal each by Florin Anton and Paul Bugeja gave a comfortable win for the Luxol side.

Promoted side San Gwann managed a 4-2 win against Birzebbuga St. Peter’s. Mark Zammit, Alan Borg, Dylan Musu and Jurgen Pace scored the goals that mattered for the winning side.

Mosta returned to winning ways after beating Zurrieq 7-5 to move further up in the table. Two braces by Ryan Buhagiar and Armando Gjepali and a goal by Darrell Schembri, Matthew Borg and George Douglas Saliba paved the way for the Blues. Zurrieq’s goals were scored by two own goals, Lloris Garnier, Tyrone Borg and Lawrence Vella.

Pembroke saw off Melita 6-3 to maintain the fifth place in the table.

Meanwhile promotion favourites Zebbug Rangers and Gzira United produced an incredible 0-0 draw in the big match of the FXDD First Division League. It was a much awaited game that failed to live up to the hype. Zebbug were the better side in the first half and created lots of opportunities but Gzira custodian Neil Camilleri produced a string of important saves.

Qrendi took advantage of this result as they beat Santa Lucia 6-3 to top the standings with 22 points. Antonello Brincat, Dirk Zammit, Bertram Azzopardi, Alan Spiteri, Kevin Vella and an own goal by Ryan Mifsud scored the goals for Qrendi. Santa Lucia replied with two goals by Nicholas Abdilla and another by Owen Fiteni.

Naxxar Lions moved fourth in the table after having the better of Siggiewi 3-1. It was a vital win for the Lions who scored their goals thanks to a brace by Paul Falzon and a goal by Glenn Borg.

Fgura United confirmed their positive season so far to register their third win in the league after beating Mqabba 3-2. It was a close game with Fgura scoring the winner in the last minute of the match. The latter opened a double lead through Daniel Mifsud and Jason Gauci. Mqabba managed to level matters with Wayne Dimech and Jonathan Sammut. However Noel Portelli had the last word grabbing the winner in the 39th minute for Fgura.
