Zebbug Rangers are the new leaders in the BOV First Division as a goal by John Nwoba gave them a narrow win over Pietà Hotspurs in a top-of-the-table clash.
This was the sixth successive win for Jesmond Zammit’s side and the first defeat for the team led by Noel Coleiro. Zebbug enjoy a two-point lead over the Hotspurs.
Melita failed to keep the pace with the top teams after being held in a 1-1 draw by Gudja United.
Filippo Scozzese put Gudja ahead with Alan Borg Olivier levelling matters for the Amateurs.
Gzira United maintained their positive run with a 1-0 win over St. Andrews who have now lost five of the last six matches. Bjorn Bondin scored the all-important goal for Ivan Zammit’s side.
On the other hand, Msida St. Joseph continued to pile more misery on wooden-spoonists Hamrun Spartans, beating them 4-0. Msida now join Zurrieq on the 8-point mark, nine ahead of the Spartans. Ariel Laudisi was the hero for the Saints with three goals. Pellegrino Albanese had put them ahead.
When all teams have played eleven matches, apart from Zebbug who played twelve, Zebbug lead the way with 26 points, followed by Pietà on 24, Lija 22, Melita and St. George’s 18, Gzira 17, Gudja 15, Birzebbuga 14, St. Andrews 12, Zejtun 10, Zurrieq and Msida 8 and Hamrun -1.
