After eliminating holders Hibernians from the U*BET FA Trophy, Pietà Hotspurs bounced back from the two league defeats with a 3-2 win over Gzira United in this weekend’s big match from the BOV First Division.
Jonathan Bilbao Zarate put the Hotspurs ahead on 16 minutes and Raphael Alain Kooh Sohna doubled the score three minutes later. Andrew Spiteri made it 3-0 on 24 minutes. Nine minutes later, Christian Cassar pulled one back for the Maroons. Fifteen minutes from time, Shaun Vella scored a second goal for Ivan Zammit’s side.
Leaders Zebbug Rangers claimed another three points in a 2-1 win over Zurrieq. Alan Tabone and Mauricio Rodrigues Britto gave the Rangers a two-goal lead with Osi Lucky Agboebina reducing the gap for Zurrieq.
St. Andrews returned to winning ways thanks to a 2-0 win over Msida St. Joseph.
Emiliano Lattes put Danilo Doncic’s side ahead two minutes in the second half and Brian Said doubled the score on 73 minutes.
Melita and St. George’s shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw in another matches. Luke Micallef put Melita ahead on the 7th minute and Alex Ellul levelled matters on the 19th. Jose Jairo Rodriguez Cuerto made it 2-1 for Melita and ten minutes in the second half, an own goal provided them with a third goal. However goals by Keith Tanti and Jhonathan Bernardo Mariano restored equilibrium.
Zebbug lead the way with 29 points, followed by Pietà on 27, Melita and Lija 22, St. George’s 20, Gudja 18, Gzira 17, St. Andrews 16, Birzebbuga 15, Zejtun 13, Zurrieq 9, Msida 8 and Hamrun 2.
