Zebbug Rangers now share the top spot with Pietà Hotspurs in the BOV First Division after being held in a 3-3 draw by Lija Athletic in one of the four matches in programme on Sunday.
Beppe Antignolo gave Lija an early lead, Ratko Mandic levelled matters but Ige Abullahi Adeshina made it 2-1 for Lija. In the second half, Anderson Mendes Ribeiro scored twice to turn the score in Zebbug’s favour but Kiril Aleksandrov notched a late equaliser for Lija who stay four points behind the leaders.
St. Andrews returned to winning ways thanks to a most comfortable 8-2 win over Zejtun Corinthians. Trayo Grozev was the hero for Danilo Doncic’s side with five goals with Emiliano Lattes scoring two and Kai Risholt adding another. Adrian Carabott and Aleksandars Cekulajevs scored Zejtun’s goals.
Birzebbuga St. Peter’s defeated Gudja United 2-1 to join them in seventh place on the 18-point mark.
On the other hand, Zurrieq registered an important win in the battle against relegation as they defeated Gzira United 3-1. Stefan Giglio and a brace by Osi Lucky Agboebina put Zurrieq three goals ahead before Shaun Vella scored a consolation goal for the Maroons.
Zebbug and Pietà lead the way with 33 points, followed by Lija on 29, Melita 23, St. George’s 20, St. Andrews 19, Gudja and Birzebbuga 18, Gzira 17, Zurrieq 15, Zejtun 14, Msida 11 and Hamrun 7.
