The Cottonera Sports Complex is hosting the Schools Futsal Festival, an annual event organised by the Grassroots Department of the MFA Technical Centre in collaboration with the Sports Promotion Unit and the Kunsill Malti għall-Isport which kicked-off last week.
The event is growing in popularity and is attracting hundreds of youngsters representing 60 teams from schools from different parts of Malta and Gozo.
Following the pen-ultimate festival, this phase of the event sees schools playing against one another after the teams were selected by the PE teachers. The PE teachers will now select the elite players from among the teams who took part in this phase to represent the college team in the final phase.
As is usual the organisers are committed towards the holistic formation of the participants, including their general education, the rules of the game and a sense of fair play. The young footballers will receive T-Shirts as a memento of their participation courtesy of the MFA and TeamSport, while General Soft Drinks (GSD) will provide the participants with Kristal water. Material assistance for the festival is provided by the sponsors who have once again acceded to the request of the organisers for their generous backing.
The festival will also provide the organisers with the opportunity to promote the finals of the popular Under 17 competition.
