Tricky tests for Valletta, Birkirkara

mosta-valletta130818Valletta and Birkirkara will have to be careful not to drop any points on Tuesday as they take on Mosta and Sliema Wanderers respectively in the two Championship Pool matches in programme.

The two matches were originally planned for Sunday but were postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at the National Stadium.

In the first match, Valletta target a fourth win over Mosta this season after beating them 2-1 in the first round, 6-0 in the second and 3-0 in the U*BET FA Trophy. A win which would temporarily put them on level points with leaders Birkirkara before the Stripes face Sliema. The Citizens won six of the last eight matches, dropping points in two draws with Sliema. In their last outing, they defeated Hibernians 3-1.

In their last game, Birkirkara brought Mosta’s fine run to an end as they defeated them 4-0. Under the guidance of coach Enrico Piccioni, the Blues had registered six consecutive wins.

The two teams are expected to be in full strength with no players injured or suspended.

In the second match, Sliema take on Birkirkara.

The Wanderers have maintained an unbeaten run in the last ten matches and eye another positive result from this difficult clash against leaders Birkirkara who cannot afford any result other than a win in order to make sure of staying three points clear. The Stripes won the last three matches, losing just one game out of the last seventeen.

Birkirkara midfielder Rowen Muscat and Sliema striker Abubakar Bello-Osagie are ruled out injured.

In the first round, the two teams shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw while Birkirkara won 3-1 in the second.
