Hibernians won the tenth BOV Women’s First Division Championship in the history of the club after defeating Birkirkara 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw at the end of extra-time in a championship decider at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.
Both teams had ended their league commitments on level points.
Dorianne Theuma put the Paolites ahead on 29 minutes but Kelly Agius Pace equalised two minutes later. Theuma made it 2-1 eight minutes in the second half but ten minutes later, Rachel Cuschieri restored equilibrium.
With the result still draw at the end of the ninety minutes, the game went into extra-time and with no goals being scored in extra-time, penalties had to decide the issue.
