One hundred and sixty goalkeepers from Malta and Gozo will be taking part in the 4th edition of the GOALKEEPER BATTLE 2014. This provides all goalkeepers a unique occasion to compete and show their talents but also an opportunity to meet, enjoy and learn.
The Goalkeeper Battle is open for eighth categories – the female, seniors, Under-19, Under-17, Under-15, Under-13, Under-11 and Under-9.
David Cassar – winner of the seniors category last year, Under-21 international Jurgen Borg and the winner of the Under-19 and the Under-17 categories Matthew Calleja Cremona of Pembroke Athleta are among the goalkeepers taking part in this year’s battle.
All profit from this year’s edition will be donated to ZEM ZEM Foundation – a voluntary foundation which provides monetary assistance to patients suffering from diseases such as Leukemia for which the ideal treatment is unavailable in the national health system.
Former Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek has donated three autographed footballs, Czech Republic international goalkeeper Petr Cech also donated autographed gloves and Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti has donated his shirt. These will be auctioned during the Goalkeeper Battle on Saturday 24th at Luxol Stadium. The battle will kick-off on Saturday at 16:00.
