Women's national team takes on Serbia

women-malta-israel140507pzcThe Malta women’s national team takes on Serbia at the Gradski Stadion, Indjija on Saturday in one of two FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers away from home in six days’ time.

Malta lost the six matches played so far, suffering thirty-one goals and scoring none. This includes a 0-3 defeat to Serbia at the Centenary Stadium last February. For Serbia, this was the only win in six matches, earning their only point in a draw with Denmark.

With several players ruled out of this clash, coach Pierre Brincat’s plan will be a damage-limiting exercise.

The players at his disposal are:
goalkeepers Keoney Demicoli, Maria-Assunta Farrugia;
defenders Francesca Chircop, Rebecca D’Agostino, Stefania Farrugia, Jade Flask, Natasha Pace, Kimberly Parnis, Alishia Sultana, Dionne Tonna, Charlene Zammit, Shona Zammit;
midfielders Brenda Borg, Rachel Cuschieri, Mandy Debono, Antoinette Sammut, Emma Xuereb;
forwards Martina Borg

On Thursday, Malta faces Iceland before the team concludes its commitments with the final two Group Cqualifiers which will be played in September against Denmark away from home and against Switzerland at Ta’ Qali.
