Despite ending in nine men, Gozitan First Division side St. Lawrence Spurs secured a place in the second round of the FA Trophy as they beat Mdina Knights 2-0 after extra-time. Oratory Youths and Victoria Hotspurs also made it to the next stage along with Mtarfa.
In the first match at the Centenary Stadium, St. Lawrence and Mdina no goals were scored by the end of the ninety minutes although the Spurs had a player sent off.
Nine minutes in the first half of extra time, substitute Mambaye Boye put St. Lawrence ahead and just before the end of the first half, Michael Matthias Uzor doubled the score. A second player as sent off for the Spurs in the second half of extra-time.
Victoria Hotspurs beat Ta’ Xbiex 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium. Dylan Bellotti put the Hotspurs ahead on 38 minutes. Jude Bugeja levelled matters on 77 minutes but Oliver Curmi notched the winner for the Hotspurs two minutes from time.
At the Gozo Stadium, Oratory Youths defeated Luqa St. Andrew’s 4-3 after extra-time. Shaun Attard put Oratory ahead on the 20th minute, hitting home off the rebound after having a penalty blocked by the goalkeeper. Three minutes later, Greg Marney equalised thanks to a penalty. Mark Camilleri made it 2-1 for the Gozitans. Marney scored again for Luqa on the 59th and ten minutes later, Clive Psaila put the Saints ahead for the first time. Three minutes from time, James Tabone restored equilibrium to force extra-time with Andrea Debrincat scoring for Oratory four minutes in the second half of extra-time.
In another match, Mtarfa scored twice in the second half to beat Ghajnsielem 2-0. Paul Azzopardi out Mtarfa ahead on 63 minutes and Keithrick Sant doubled the score three minutes from time.
