The Malta Under-17 side lost 5-0 and 5-1 to Wales in two friendly matches at the Glyndwr University Racecourse Stadium in Wrexham.
These games were part of Sergio Soldano’s side’s preparation ahead of the UEFA Under-17 Championship mini-tournament in Serbia scheduled for the 17th to the 22nd October where Malta will be facing hosts Serbia, the Netherlands and Finland.
In the first match against Wales on Tuesday, Malta held the initiative in the early stages but Wales scored twice between the 13th and 19th through Sam Williams and Ben Woodburn to take control.
Thirteen minutes in the second half, Nathan Broadhead, made it 3-0 and two minutes later, Sam Williams scored the fourth. Tyler Roberts sealed the issue with a fifth goal on the 70th.
On Thursday, Wales registered a 5-1 win. The Maltese made things difficult for Wales in the opening half hour. The first Wales goal came after Malta were penalised for a back-pass to their goalie. From the free kick, Rhys Abbruzzese found the far corner of the net on 31 minutes.
Substitute Sam Williams scored the second goal just two minutes after coming-on the field and Blake Davies made it 3-0. Kieran Xuereb pulled one back on 63 minutes but Wales made it four with a goal from Liam Cullen. Substitute Tyler Roberts made it five with a few minutes of the game to go.
