Two second half-goals by Hanna Tegel and Raina Giusti enabled Birkirkara to beat Hibernians 2-0 in the clash between the two heavy-weights in the BOV Women’s League on Tuesday.
Tegel put the Stripes ahead on the hour and Giusti doubled the score ten minutes from time. This win leaves Birkirkara as the only team with maximum points from two matches as they had defeated Swieqi United 9-1 in their first game although Raiders (Luxol) and Mgarr United currently lead the way with seven points from three matches.
Raiders had defeated Lija/Iklin 20-0 and after a goalless draw with Mgarr, beat Tarxien Rainbows 3-0 this week. Mgarr, on the other hand, beat Sliema Wanderers 7-0 and Kirkop United 1-0.
Kirkop, Pembroke Athleta and Tarxien Rainbows, join Birkirkara on the 6-point mark as they all registered wins two wins, losing the other game. Kirkop beat Hamrun and Lija/Iklin with identical 7-0 scores, losing to Mgarr; Pembroke defeated Hamrun Spartans 5-0 and Lija/Iklin 9-0 after losing 0-2 to Hibernians in their first outing while Tarxien beat Swieqi 5-0 and Sliema 1-0, losing to Raiders in their other game.
Champions Hibernians are currently seventh as they played only two matches, beating Pembroke and losing to Birkirkara.
The two new teams Sliema Wanderers and Swieqi United earned their first point on Tuesday as they shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw, leaving Hamrun and Lija/Iklin at the bottom of the table without any points.
