FA Trophy: Comfortable win for holders Valletta

Holders Valletta found no difficulty in disposing off First Division wooden-spoonists Birzebbuga St. Peter’s, beating them 7-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in a clash from the third round of the FA Trophy.

Ryan Fenech put the Citizens ahead on 7 minutes, Raphael Kooh Sohna doubled the score on the 12th from a penalty and within seven minutes, Luke Montebello scored twice – on the 15th and the 19th – to increase the lead to 4-0. Nicolo Clerico pulled one back for Birzebbuga on the 20th.

Montebello completed a hat-trick on the 73rd and seven minutes later, Hugo Faria added another before Christian Caruana scored the seventh goal in stoppage time.

In the next round, Valletta will be facing the winner of the clash between Naxxar Lions and Melita.

At the Sirens Stadium, Second Division side Siggiewi beat First Division side Zurrieq 5-2.

Osi Lucky Agboebina put Zurrieq ahead on the 5th minute but Siggiewi equalised a minute later through Stephane Tape. Stephane Tape made it 2-1 on 41 minutes and just before half-time, Stephen Wellman restored equilibirium. Stephane Tape made it 3-2 on 56 minutes and seven minutes later, Francois Guihard scored the fourth goal for Siggiewi. Kim Buhagiar sealed the issue with a fifth goal three minutes from time.

Siggiewi will be facing the winner of the clash between Birkirkara and Hamrun Spartans.

Joseph Mbong put the Paolites ahead on 21 minutes and Edison Luis dos Santos doubled the score on 43 minutes.

In the next round, Hibs will be travelling to Gozo to face GFA First Division leaders Nadur Youngsters.
