After suffering four consecutive defeats, Gzira United returned to winning ways as they defeated Msida St. Joseph 1-0 in one of four matches from the BOV First Division on Saturday.
Edouard Ndjodo scored the all-important goal on the 70th.
Birzebbuga St. Peter’s earned their second point in a 3-3 draw with Vittoriosa Stars. The Stars seemed heading for victory after taking a two-goal lead thanks to a brace by Michael Camilleri on 17 and 23 minutes. However Jeremiah Ani pulled one back on 26 minutes and thirteen minutes in the second half, Darrell Grech equalised. Carl Sammut made it 3-2 for Vittoriosa one minute later but Gilbert Camilleri notched the equaliser ten minutes from time.
Lija Athletic moved one point behind the leaders following a 3-2 win over Mqabba. Beppe Antignolo put Lija ahead on the 10th minute. Douglas da Silva Silveira equalised on the 34th but goals by Cleavon Frendo eight minutes in the second half and Isaac McCarthy on the 66th minute put Lija 3-1 ahead before Rafael da Silva Gomes reduced the gap on 72 minutes.
Zurrieq and Fgura United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. An own goal by Iro Curmi put Zurrieq ahead on 52 minutes but John Roland Emeka equalised on the 76th.
St. Andrews and Melita lead the way with 19 points, followed by Lija on 18, Pembroke 17, Gudja, Vittoriosa and St. George’s 16, Fgura 14, Mqabba and Gzira 13, Zurrieq and Msida 10, Rabat 8 and Birzebbuga 2.
