BOV Division 1: St. Andrews regain sole leadership

St. Andrews regain sole leadership in the BOV First Division while Pembroke Athleta move second after four matches were played on Sunday.

A goal by Kyrian Nwoko on the 69th was enough for St. Andrews to bounce back from the defeat to Gudja United last week and beat Zurrieq 1-0.

Gudja United lost 0-1 to Pembroke Athleta in a direct clash between teams from the upper part of the table. Ousmane Sidibe scored the all-important goal two minutes from time.

Lija Athletic missed the chance to move second after suffering a 0-3 defeat to Gzira United. For the Maroons this was the second consecutive win after losing the previous four matches. Ryan Dalli put them ahead on 16 minutes, Edouard Ndjodo doubled the score just before half-time and Anthony Ewurum converted a penalty on 71 minutes to seal the issue.

In another match, Fgura United and St. George’s shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Gabriel Okechukwu put the Saints ahead on the 30th but Josef Dalli equalised three minutes from time.

St. Andrew lead the way with 22 points, followed by Pembroke on 20, Gudja, Vittoriosa and Melita 19, Lija 18, St. George’s 17, Gzira 16, Fgura 15, Mqabba and Rabat 14, Zurrieq and Msida 10 and Birzebbuga 3.
