Malta will be playing a friendly match against Georgia on March 23, five days before the EURO 2016 qualifier against Azerbaijan in Baku.
This will be the first game for Georgia under the guidance of former Manchester City defender Kakhaber Tskhadadze who has just signed a two-and-a-half year contract to take over as head coach of Georgia, following the departure of Temuri Ketsbaia.
Just as the friendly match against Slovakia early in September provided a good test for Pietro Ghedin’s side ahead of the EURO qualifier against Croatia, this friendly game against Georgia should put the team in shape ahead of the Azerbaijan clash.
Malta met Georgia seven times, winning once and two of the games ending in draws, including the EURO 2012 qualifier at Ta’ Qali in 2011.
In the EURO 2016 campaign, Malta lost 2-0 to Croatia in Zagreb, 0-3 to Norway and 0-1 to Italy at Ta’ Qali and held Bulgaria in a 1-1 draw in Sofia last month.
