Gzira United registered a fourth consecutive win in the BOV First Division as they beat Mqabba 5-0 to join Vittoriosa Stars in fourth place on 22 points. Mqabba, on the other hand have now gone seven matches without a win.
Yanis Tonna put the Maroons ahead on 33 minutes and four minutes later, new recruit John Ogechukwu Nwoba doubled the score. One minute from half-time, Steve Meilak scored the third goal. Nwoba added another eleven minutes in the second half and four minutes from time, Moises Avila Perez converted a penalty to seal the issue.
At the end of the first round, Pembroke Athletalead the way with 26 points, followed by Gudja and St. Andrews on 25, Vittoriosa and Gzira 22, St. George’s and Melita 20, Fgura 19, Lija 18, Rabat 17, Mqabba 14, Msida 13, Zurrieq 10 and Birzebbuga 6.
