Malta is still ranked 147th in the first edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking of 2015 which was published on Thursday.
In Europe, Malta is still ranked 51st, just ahead of San Marino (179) and Andorra (201). Ahead of Malta are Moldova (123, down 2), Georgia (126, down 1), Luxembourg (127, up 1), Liechtenstein (132), Azerbaijan (136, down 1) and Kazakhstan (139).
Malta’s next game is a friendly match against Georgia in March, a few days before the EURO qualifier against Azerbaijan in Baku on March 28.
As expected, there are very few changes, with football having come to a halt in many places over the New Year period. Only 16 friendlies have been included since December’s instalment, 11 of which took place in 2014. The top 45 countries in the ranking remain unchanged, with Germany continuing to lead the way ahead of Argentina and Colombia.
Meanwhile in the Women’s Ranking, Malta is ranked 105th. The Malta women’s national team is ranked 43rd, ahead of Luxembourg, Cyprus, FYR Macedonia, Armenia, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Andorra and Georgia.
Malta will be taking part in the Women’s EURO qualifying mini-tournament in April – the draws for which will be held on January 19.
