Zebbug close in on Pietà, Qormi thanks to dramatic win

Zebbug Rangers moved to just two points behind Pietà Hotspurs and Qormi as they came from one goal down to beat the Hotspurs 2-1 with two goals in the final six minutes.

The Hotspurs seemed heading for victory courtesy of an early goal by Orosco Anonam but Zebbug had other thoughts, scoring twice through Mathias Muchardi and Lee Galea to take home three precious points. For Zebbug, this was the second win in three matches.

Zebbug coach Alfonso Greco kept his faith in the same eleven players which had started the game against Valletta as Carlo Monti was once again ruled out injured. For Pietà, Miguel Montfort and new signing Charles Nnaemeka Newuche replaced David Cassar and Christian Grech.

The Hotspurs took the lead after just two minutes when off a cross by Claudio Frances, the ball was not held by the Zebbug goalkeeper and Orosco Anonam placed the ball at the back of the net.

The Rangers equalised six minutes from time thanks to Mathias Muchardi who received an assist by Jacob Borg and controlled before hitting past Montfort.

Zebbug equalised on the 90th when off a Kurt Zammit corner from the right, Lee Galea headed the ball home past the Pietà goalkeeper.
