Luxol maintained the top spot in the Futsal First Division after thumping Swieqi United 14-0 following another round of matches at the Corradino Pavillion. They dominated right from the start and went on to register the largest win of the season.
Double strikes from Celino Alves, Florin Anton, George Frendo, Karl Saliba and William Barbosa together with Ibrahim Tarik, Dale Camilleri and two own-goals gave Luxol the three points.
Hamrun Spartans maintained the pressure on Luxol with a convincing 7-4 victory against neighbours Valletta. The Citizens gave a mighty performance but on the day Hamrun proved to be stronger.
Valletta took the lead early in the game through Xavier Saliba but two quick-fire goals helped Hamrun turn the score in their favour before half-time. New signing Rafael Felipe Ortiz de Oliveira notched a hat-trick with Mohammed Elamari, Jovica Milijic, Rogerio dos Santos Filho and an own goal by Cedric Sciberras scoring the other goals for James Ciangura’s second-placed side. Denis di Maio hit the target three times to reduce the score for the Lilywhites.
Balzan returned to winning ways as they beat Gzira United 8-2 thanks to goals by Frane Despotovic (3), Marco Conti, Boycho Marev, Carl Azzopardi, Matthew Attard and Mark Zammit for Balzan and a brace by Alessio Restuccia for the Maroons.
In a crucial basement clash, Mosta saw off Zebbug Rangers 9-3 to extend their advantage over their nearest relegation rivals.
In the First Division, Luqa St. Andrew’s suffered two defeats to Lija Athletic and Mdina Knights respectively. Lija Athletic defeated Luqa 6-2 to stay on top alongside Mellieha. Redeemer Borg and Zeljko Anicic scored two goals each with Mark Mizzi and Florin Manea adding the other two goals.
Nikolay Filipov scored four as Mellieha beat Mqabba 7-2. Mdina beat Luqa 5-1 while Naxxar consolidated their third place after beating Siggiewi 6-2.
