St. Andrews take sole leadership in the BOV First Division as they defeated Msida St. Joseph with Gudja United suffering a 2-4 defeat to Rabat Ajax.
St. Andrews came from behind to beat Msida St. Joseph 2-1 as Helder Souza put the latter ahead on 28 minutes. However goals by Trayo Grozev on the 74th and Michael Johnson four minutes later handed player-coach Brian Said’s team the three points.
Lawrence Chiedozie was the hero for Rabat as he scored three in a 4-2 win over Gudja. The Nigerian striker put Rabat ahead on 14 minutes and doubled the score ten minutes later. Angelo Catania pulled one back on 59 minutes but after having two players sent off, Gudja suffered another two goals by Wayne Borg on the 85th and Lawrence Chiedozie one minute later. Adrian Carabott scored a second goal for Gudja on the 90th.
Mqabba defeated St. George’s 3-1. Guilherme Soares de Freitas put Mqabba ahead on the 29th and eight minutes later, the same Brazilian striker doubled the score. Anthony Bonello pulled one back for St. George’s with Stephane Guy Tape sealing the issue with a third goal eight minutes from time.
A goal by Kurt Coleiro on 59 minutes enabled Melita to beat Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 1-0.
St. Andrews lead the way with 33 points, followed by Gzira on 32, Pembroke and Gudja 30, Fgura and Melita 29, St. George’s and Lija 25, Vittoriosa 23, Mqabba 22, Rabat 21, Msida 14, Zurrieq 11 and Birzebbuga 9.
