Leaders St. Andrews dropped three important points as they suffered a shock 1-3 defeat to Mqabba in one of the two BOV First Division matches in programme at the Centenary Stadium.
Emiliano Lattes put the Saints ahead on the 8th minute but Ryan Schembri equalised on the 36th and thirteen minutes in the second half, Karl Cutajar made it 2-1 for Mqabba. Stephane Guy Tape sealed the issue with a third goal two minutes in added time.
In another match, Gudja United and St. Georges’ shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw.
St. George’s took the lead thanks to Brandon Muscat on the 14th but a brace by Angelo Catania on the 46th and on the 77th – the second goal being a penalty, turned the score in favour of Gudja. However Bruno Chikwado Mbonu rescued a point for Patrick Curmi’s side two minutes in added time.
St. Andrews lead the way with 39 points, followed by Pembroke on 36, Gzira, Fgura and Melita on 35, Gudja 31, St. George’s 30, Vittoriosa 29, Lija and Mqabba 25, Rabat 22, Zurrieq 17, Msida 14 and Birzebbuga 9.
