Vittoriosa Stars registered a fourth successive win in the BOV First Division as they came from behind to beat Lija Athletic 4-1. A win which puts the Stars on level points with Melita, one point behind third-placed Gzira and Fgura.
Abdullahi Ige Adeshina put Lija ahead on 23 minutes but Vittoriosa equalised on the 65th through a penalty by Eder Henrique Guedes. Five minues later, substitute Felipe Canavan made it 2-1 and after Lija had a player sent off, Felipe Canavan scored a third goal on the 79th. Liam Gauci converted a penalty on the 90th to seal the issue.
Zurrieq earned a precious point in the battle against relegation as they held St. George’s in a 1-1 draw. Larson Mallia put the Cospicua side ahead on 45 minutes but Joseph Jojo Ogunuppe, rescued a point for Zurrieq five minutes from time.
Pembroke and St. Andrews lead the way with 39 points, followed by Gzira and Fgura on 36, Melita and Vittoriosa 35, Gudja 31, St. George’s 30, Lija 28, Mqabba 25, Rabat 22, Zurrieq 18, Msida 14 and Birzebbuga 12.
