The Malta Under-16 side ended at the bottom of the table after losing three matches – one of them on penalties in the UEFA Youth Development Tournament which was played in Gibraltar between the 29th March and the 1st April.
In their first outing on Sunday, Malta lost 2-0 to hosts Gibraltar. Although the Maltese held the initiative for long stretches, the hosts took the lead on the 34th and doubled the score deep into stoppage time.
On Monday, Malta then drew 2-2 with FYR Macedonia but went down 4-3 on penalties. The former Yugoslav republic too the lead twice but each time, the Maltese managed to level matters.
The third and final match was against San Marino on Wednesday. Malta managed to take the lead but San Marino scored twice to claim the three points.
