Eamon Bugeja appointed Luqa SA coach

Third Division side Luqa St. Andrew’s FC have appointed Eamon Bugeja as their coach for the coming two years. Bugeja, who will also be in charge of the Youths team, will replace Nikolai Slavtchev who led the team for the past two years.

In a statement, the club thanked Slavtchev for the service rendered to the club both as a player and as a coach and wished him success for the future.

Eamon Bugeja started his coaching career with Attard FC, leading the Under-15, Under-17, Youths and senior team. He went on to join Floriana to lead the Youths team and assist senior team coaches Mark Wright and Stephen Azzopardi. Bugeja coached Santa Lucia in Division 3 and joined Lija Athletic last season as assistant to senior team coach Joe Brincat and coach of the Youths team which won Section D.

James Muscat will be assisting Eamon Bugeja as Assistant Coach.

Meanwhile Kenneth Costantino, who was the Head Coach of the Luqa St. Andrew’s Nursery, has been appointed Director of Football. In his new role, he would be in charge of seeing that the technical strategy would be followed by all teams within the club from the nursery up to the senior team. This would ensure that the transition from the nursery up to the Youths team and eventually the senior side is as smooth as possible. Kenneth Costantino would be supervising the coaching of the Luqa St. Andrew’s FC Youth Academy while working hand in hand with coach Eamon Bugeja.

New Luqa St. Andrew’s FC president Dr. Evan Camilleri said the club is looking ahead with optimism. Now that the club has excellent facilities, the next step is to have the younger generation of players from the locality to get the chance to play for the senior team and that the level of the game improves thanks to the professional coaches engaged by the club and nursery.
