The Summer Friendship Cup kicked-off on Wednesday with the first match from Group A while Group B got underway on Thursday with the first two matches.
Valletta registered a comfortable 5-0 win over Tarxien Rainbows in Group A. Jhonnattann Benites da Conceicao put the Citizens ahead on the 15th, Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza doubled the score on the 26th and two minutes from half-time, Jhonnattann scored the third goal. Claudio Pani converted a penalty on the 58th to increase the lead further and Jean Borg sealed the issue with a fifth goal thirteen minutes from time.
In Group B, Senglea Athletic defeated Fgura United 3-1 in a clash between two First Division sides. The newly-promoted side took a three-goal lead by the end of the first half as Miguel Ciantar put them ahead on the 10th minute, Mohammed Ndayi doubled the score on 38 minutes and Timothy Thomas made it 3-0 one minute from half-time. Abeeb Abiodun Williams pulled one back when he converted a penalty on 64 minutes.
In anther match, a penalty by Alex Muscat on the 46th minutes gave Sliema Wanderers a narrow win over St. Andrews.
The clash between Melita and Gzira United which was due to be played on Wednesday has been postponed.
