Under-21 side earns another point in Montenegro

The Malta Under-21 side led by coach Silvio Vella earned another point in Group 1 of the UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifying rounds after holding Montenegro in a goalless draw at the Gradski Stadion in Podgorica on Tuesday.

The team therefore bounced back from Friday’s 4-1 defeat to the Czech Republic and earned the fifth point in the group after a draw with Moldova and a win over Latvia in two matches away from home. Malta is currently second in the group on five points, one behind leaders Belgium and one ahead of Moldova.

The hosts held the initiative and created the better chances throughout the ninety minutes but the Maltese controlled their opponents well to take home another precious point.

Eight minutes from time, Igor Vujačić was sent off by the referee.

The next game for Malta is against group leaders Belgium at FC ZD Oud-Heverlee in Louvain on October 9
