Malta registered two wins over San Marino in two international friendlies at the Multieveneti Sport Domus in Serravalle, San Marino.
In the first match on Saturday, which also marked the debut of Peter Pullicino as the new national futsal coach, Malta dominated, enjoying a good amount of possession and creating lots of goal scoring opportunities.
Xavier Saliba, Carl Azzopardi, Melvin Borg and Matthew Attard scored for Malta, the other being an own goal. In the dying seconds of the game, San Marino pulled a consolation goal to narrow the gap to 5-1.
The second match was no easy game for the Maltese as they came back from from 3-1 down to win 5-3.
Malta took the lead early in the game but San Marino reacted well and scored twice before the break. In the second half, San Marino added another one until Peter Pullicino, eleven minutes from the end, opted for the flying keeper to pile more pressure on the San Marino rearguard.
This move paid dividends as Malta managed to score three times to secure a second win.
Dylan Musu hit the target twice while Luke Stivala, Carl Azzopardi and Xavier Saliba added more goals for Malta. Saliba continued with his goal-scoring spree as he hit his 19th international goal to strengthen his record number of goals for Malta.
These matches were an important test for Peter Pullicino to gauge his players for the upcoming FIFA Futsal World Cup qualifiers in Kaunas, Lithuania, where Malta will be facing France and Albania, apart from hosts Lithuania.
